Soy
Soy is rich in protein and also contains vitamin K. It has high concentrations of iron, phosphorus, copper, potassium, magnesium, zinc, selenium and calcium.
Soy is available in many different forms and products, such as tofu, soy milk, miso, tempeh, edamame, and plant-based meat.
Despite its versatility and high nutritional value, three quarters of all soy produced globally is not used for human consumption, but for livestock animal feeding.
A shift towards plant-based foods will help reduce the demand for soy as animal feed, putting less pressure on fragile ecosystems and increasing the availability of nutritious, protein-rich plant-based foods.
Protein
Proteins aren’t limited to come from animal meat and dairy products; they also come from plant-based sources, like soy, lentils and chickpeas. These can be a good source of protein too!
At The Vegetarian Butcher, we carefully select good quality plant proteins for our products. By using soy, we can produce more protein per hectare than we currently can with any other crop.
Check-out our high in protein products on our product page overview. Simply filter on “High protein” using the dropdown menu.
Iron
Iron is a micronutrient which means it’s needed in very small amounts, yet it’s an important nutrient to include in our diets.
Iron helps blood cells in delivering oxygen to various parts of our body and supports in storing oxygen in our muscles.
The Vegetarian Butcher’s products are a good source of iron, so that you can enjoy our products to the fullest and sacrifice nothing.
Fiber
A diet rich in fibres has several health benefits, including lowering blood cholesterol and maintaining a healthy gut. Typically, we do not get enough dietary fibre from our current diets.
Products of The Vegetarian Butcher are a good source of fibre that comes from plant sources, like soy (soy protein concentrate), methyl cellulose, citrus fibre, fibre from bamboo or oat.
Fats
Fats are important nutrients and can play a role in maintaining good health and functioning of our body. There are different types of fats: unsaturated fats and saturated fats.
Animal meats, butter and coconut oil are examples of foods high in saturated fats. Vegetable oils and nuts are examples of foods rich in unsaturated fats.
Scientific evidence suggests that replacing foods with a high content of saturated fats with foods that are rich in unsaturated fats can help maintain normal blood cholesterol and reduce the risk of developing heart disease.
The Vegetarian Butcher products are lower in saturated fats than the products they aim to replace, so you can enjoy our products to the fullest and sacrifice nothing.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a water-soluble compound in the B-vitamin family. It's mainly found in animal-based foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy, as well as fortified plant-based products.
Vitamin B12 is important for the functioning of brain and nervous system. It also works with other nutrients to form red blood cells. At Vegetarian Butcher, we add Vitamin B12 so the meat lovers do not miss out on this key nutrients when they move away from animal meat
